Lithuanian University of Health Sciences (LSMU) is a new university, result of unification of Kaunas University of Medicine (KMU) and the Lithuanian Veterinary Academy (LVA) in 2010. Lithuanian University of Health Sciences (LSMU) is the largest institution of higher education for biomedical sciences in Lithuania, successfully integrating studies, research and clinical practice. LSMU consists of two main academies: Medical Academy and Veterinary Academy.

The university offer human and veterinary medical programs through different faculty and institutes:Faculty of Pharmacy,  Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Odontology,  Faculty of Nursing, Faculty of Public Health, Behavioral Medicine Institute,  Institute of Endocrinology, Institute of Cardiology, Neuroscience Institute, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Clinics of Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Faculty of Animal Husbandry Technology, Institute of Animal Science.

One of the programs attracting most international students is Medicine in English: an integrated 6-year course, consisting of 54 subjects of general University education, fundamental and special medicine, which volume is 24 credits (or 360 ECTS credits). Starting with the second year all the subjects in the Faculty of Medicine are studied, according to the new problem-based learning model, when the studies are conducted following the theoretical and clinical models.

Preclinical study: (first 3 years) the subjects of humanitarian-social, fundamental and pre-clinical medicine (e.g., Anatomy, Human Histology and Embryology, Cytology and Parasitology, Genetics and Movement, Respiration, Blood Circulation and other models), providing knowledge about body composition and function of healthy and ill person, necessary for further studies.

Clinical study: causes of human diseases, their development mechanisms, features of diseases, their determination modes and general treatment principles. Particular attention is paid on clinical modules of Internal Diseases, Surgery, Intensive Medicine, Obstetrics-Gynecology, Children Health, Public Health and other modules. The necessary practical skills are acquired in hospital during special medical modules and during the clinical medical practice, which is implemented during the sixth year of studies.

Application requirements of medical study 

International students could be admitted into the English program of the Lithuanian University of Health Sciences if the:

  • Provide the legalized high school or college certificate and transcript (officially translated into English);

  • Meet the Entrance Exam requirements. 

  • Have good grades in biology, chemistry and physics will give preference. 

  • Have good knowledge of English language is obligatory.
