Lodz medical University was founded in 2002 as merging results of Medical Academy of Lodz (1950) and the Military Medical Academy of Lodz (1958) by the Act of the Polish Parliament of July 27, 2002). In the course of their existence, the Medical Academy and the Military Medical Academy have graduated over 34,000 physicians, dentists, pharmacists and other medical specialists.

For clinical studies, Medical University of Lodz has over 1600 hospital beds in five Teaching Hospitals that provide medical services for patients, being the essential base for research work and undergraduate and postgraduate teaching. Moreover, the Medical University uses 34 hospital departments with almost 1200 beds localized in non-University municipal hospitals. 
 
The University Teaching Hospitals and University-affiliated departments constitute a basic source for highly specialized diagnostic and treatment services provided by more than 1250 medical professionals including 750 specialists with professors and associate professors who take care of health needs of the Lodz region community and promote health-related programs. 
 
Students of Medical University of Lodz take part in international academic exchange programs. At the same time students from European universities come to study at MUL as exchange students in the frame of LLP-Erasmus program.  Each year several  Lodz Medical University students complete their 3 to 6 month-long hospital  practice in countries in Europe: in  Italy, Germany, France, Slovakia, the U.K. and other.

Preparatory Course at Lodz University

Lodz University is one-year course, taught in English. The course is design for international students planning to apply for medical and dentistry programs in order to repeat and improve their knowledge required on the entrance exam. It also aims at making up the differences of candidates’ knowledge in the prerequisite subjects to help them in their first year of studies.

Program of medical preparatory course:

  • Laboratory classes in Biology (160 hours), Chemistry (160 hours) and Physics (128 hours),
  • 230 hours of Medical English
  • Classes in Anatomy (50 hours)
  • Introduction to academic professionalism, social competencies and learning skills (62 hours)

Admission requirements for the Preparatory Course:

  • High school diploma/secondary school leaving certificate qualifying for admission to a university
  • Extended level of knowledge (advance placement) in Chemistry and Biology and the knowledge in Physics or Mathematics at the standard level at least – documented by the school leaving certificate/diploma.
  • English competency written and spoken confirmed by the language certificate or the secondary school transcript


Undergraduate medical study at Lodz University


Undergraduate medical study at Lodz University is a 6-year MD program, designed for high school/secondary school graduates. It is a full time study program based on requirements, which are obligatory for the Polish medical higher education institutions, and is adequate to EU standards.
Academic year for Undergraduate medical study program is from October to June with only one intake per year: fall intake.

Lodz undergraduate medical Program consists of 3 years ( 6 semesters) of pre-clinical, basic subjects; anatomy, medical chemistry, biology, biophysics, physiology, histology and cell biology, microbiology, pathomorphology, pharmacology and others and 3 years (6 semesters) of clinical subjects as internal medicine, pediatrics, surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, psychiatry, radiology, family medicine, neurology, oncology & palliative care, otolaryngology, ophthalmology, infectious diseases and others.

Undergraduate medical study admission requirements:

High school diploma or a secondary school leaving certificate qualifying for admission to a university or medical school in a home country
Extended level of knowledge (advance placement) in Chemistry and Biology and the knowledge in Physics or Mathematics at the standard level at least – documented by the school leaving certificate/diploma. The grades required should be above the average.
English competency written and spoken confirmed by the respective certificates as CAE, CPE, TOEFL PBT (min 500 points), IELTS (min 5.5 points) if the secondary education was not conducted in English.

Accelerated medical course at University of Lodz

Accelerated medical course at University of Lodz is 4-year MD program is a part of the 6- year program, It is a full time study program, tailor-made for graduate students who completed the pre-medical programs and obtained at least the BSc degree. Most of them are coming from from USA, Canada, Taiwan or American universities in other countries,
Accelerated medical course at University of Lodz consists of 2 years ( 4 semesters) of pre-clinical, basic subjects: anatomy, biochemistry, biophysics, physiology, histology and cell biology, microbiology, pathomorphology, pharmacology and others and 2 years (4 semesters) of clinical subjects such as: internal medicine, pediatrics, surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, psychiatry, radiology, family medicine, neurology, oncology & palliative care, otolaryngology, ophthalmology, infectious diseases and others.

Graduate students must have at least:

Chemistry/general (I and II): 8 credits (incl.lab.);
Chemistry/organic (I and II): 8 credits (incl.lab.);
Biology (I and II): 8 credits (incl.lab.);
Physics (I and II): 8 credits (incl.lab.);
Each candidate must have completed a pre-medical program minimum at the level of BSc degree.

 

Dentistry study at Lodz University

Dentistry study at Lodz University is a 5-year program, designed for high school/secondary school graduates. Preclinical courses, such as anatomy, medical chemistry, biology, biophysics, physiology, histology and cell biology, and others, are realized mostly during the two first years of studies.
Paraclinical courses, such as pathomorphology, pharmacology, pathophysiology, microbiology, medical psychology, are realized starting from the second year of studies.
Clinical courses (conservative dentistry, pediatric dentistry, endodontics, orthodontics, prosthetics, periodontology, oral and maxillofacial surgery, implantology) are realized during the senior four years of dental program.

B.Sc.  of Nursing program

Nursing Program offered by medical university of medicine of Lodz is a 3-year program, designed for high school/secondary school graduates. It is a full time study program based on requirements, which are obligatory for the Polish medical higher education institutions, and is adequate to EU standards. The Program focuses on teaching, scientific research, faculty development and healthcare.

The purpose of the Program is to educate and prepare the graduates to perform their work with a high level of professionalism and to apply their knowledge of general, basic and specialized subjects while working with the individual patient, patient’s family, and groups of people in health care system and social services. The social services can be hospitals, primary and secondary health care institutions (clinics), educational institutions (schools, kindergartens, and nurseries), nursing homes, sanatoria, state and local administration etc.

The graduate of Nursing can also be self-employed in medical services – nursing, counseling, prevention and medical education, including the provision of services in the patient’s home. They are prepared to undertake the second cycle-studies and post-graduate training.
During the program the student will acquire the knowledge of basic medical subjects, such as: anatomy, biochemistry, physiology, pathology etc.; social sciences, for instance: sociology, law, pedagogy, etc. as well as General and Specialized nursing subjects.

Admission requirement to 3-year B.SC of nursing:

High school diploma or a secondary school leaving certificate qualifying for admission to a university or medical school in a home country

Medical student transfer to Lodz university of Medicine

Medical student transfer to Lodz university of Medicine is accepts from other Universities from EU countries within European Qualification Framework only for pre-clinical years (to the second and the third year of 6-year program of MD and the second year of 5-year program of DMD programs.
Applying students should provide permission for transfer from the Dean of the University they transfer from, present very good results of their previous education and a letter of request, stating transfer’s reason.
The Admission Committee takes the final decision of each transfer student after verification of all documents.

For those prospective students who speak English, but cannot present any of certificates are assessed during  skype interview.
