Vitebsk State Medical University
Vitebsk State Medical university of Belarus was founded 1934 as a Hospital - Medical Institute according to the Resolution of the Council of People's Commissars of the Belorussian Soviet Socialist Republic, with 1934 a total of 250 students. In 1938 the Hospital-Medical Institute was renamed to “Vitebsk Medical Institute”
From 1997 up to 2005 the Institute has seen profound reforms. Along with faculty of Medicine and Faculty of Pharmacy, the following faculties were established: Overseas Students Training Faculty (in 1997), Faculty of Advanced Training and Personnel Development (in 1997), Faculty of Professional Orientation and Pre-university Education (in 1998), Stomatology Faculty (in 2001), Faculty of Advanced Training in Pedagogics and Psychology (in 2001).
Today, Vitebsk State Medical University has 7 faculties with more than 7,000 students, 63 departments, staffed by 56 Doctors of Sciences and 227 Candidates of Sciences including 44 professors and 171 associate professors.
Vitebsk State Medical University degrees are recognized by World Health Organization (WHO), Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG, Philadelphia, USA), Lithuanian Centre for Higher Education Quality Assessment (Lithuania), Ministry of Education and Higher Education of the Republic of Lebanon, Federation Credentials Verification Service (FCVS, Dallas, USA), Medical Councils of India, Sri Lanka, Ireland, etc.
In 1981 by the Resolution of Ministry of Health and Ministry of Education of USSR Vitebsk State Medical Institute was the first in Belarus to receive the right to train specialists for foreign countries.

Preparatory Training Course
International students who intend to study at Faculties of Vitebsk State Medical University in Russian language are obliged to complete a special preparatory Training Course where they study Russian and fundamental disciplines, including Biology, Chemistry and Physic. The successful completion of preparatory course gives access university study in the chosen field.
Faculty of Overseas Students Training
Vitebsk State Medical University was the first Belarusian institution to get the right to train international students in 1981. 1989 the Intenational student’s preparatory Course for was established in 1989.
Today, the faculty for international students welcome student aspiring to become Physicians, Pharmacists or dentists.
- 6-year program of General medicine in English (English+ Russian);
- 6-year program of Dentistry in Russian;
- 5-year pharmacy program in Russian;
- Postgraduate specialization (Residency and PhD) of different duration in Russian;
- One year Preparatory training course in Russian;
