Masaryk University Medical Faculty provides six-year program of study in General Medicine, five-year program in Dentistry and Master’s degree program in Optometric in English.

Master's degree program in Optometric in English
 
Master's degree program in Optometric organized by Masaryk University is international program, fully taught in English, is accessible to foreign students from any country. The program has duration of two years and its graduates are awarded with a Master degree in Optometry which is recognized in the EU and most other countries. 
The Optometry Master’s Program is designed for graduates of Bachelor’s program of Optometry. It incorporates both university taught and practice-based components which have been designed together as an integrated whole.
It provides students with an extended set of theoretical knowledge and practical abilities that deepen findings learnt in previous study and prepare them for professional autonomy and excellence in professional practice. The program is a combination of in person learning and e-learning; e.g. the tuition is carried out in two forms – in person (in two periods of intensive tuition; each requiring a week each at the beginning and the end of each semester) and distant (e-learning).
Graduates of this program are experts in the areas of optics and optometry in outpatients’ departments, optical stores, ophthalmology departments, rehabilitation departments, departments of social care, spas and other fields of correction aids working together with other health professionals, including general medical practitioners and ophthalmologists to ensure the best eye and vision health outcomes for the population. They are able to function as independent professionals capable to apply suitable diagnostic and therapeutic methods and to select appropriate treatment. Besides, they can be employed as tutors of specialized subjects at secondary schools and universities.
 
Master's degree program entrance examination 
Graduates of Bachelor’s program of Optometry are admitted to Master's degree program in Optometric on the basis of a written entrance examination. The subjects of entrance exam are Optics; Eye Pathology; Refraction; Optic Aids; and Contact Lenses, the content of which is based on the previous bachelor study. The test contain 60 multiple choice questions with five possible answers out of which only one answer is correct and takes 90 minutes. The acceptance pass mark in Optometry is 50%.
 
Five year english program of Dentistry 
 
This five-year field of study is completed with the degree of MDDr. The studies are of full-time mode and designed for graduates of secondary schools completed with a school-leaving examination. 
The first two years of the studies include extended dentistry courses of Preclinical Dentistry, Gnathology, Prosthetic Technology – Materials, and Preventive Dentistry, together with the theoretical general-medicine courses of Medical Physics and Informatics, Biology, Medical Chemistry, Biochemistry, Anatomy, Histology, Physiology, and others. 
 
Successful studies of the theoretical courses necessitate an excellent previous knowledge of natural science-oriented subjects at the grammar-school level. The instruction is carried out in the form of lectures, practices, and seminars. The practical in dentistry courses take place at the Department of Stomatology with the use of modern aids – simulators. Preclinical Dentistry is completed with an examination in the 3rd semester. 
 
The third year of studies comprises general-medicine preclinical courses: Pathological Anatomy, Pathological Physiology, Clinical Examination in Internal Medicine and Surgery, and others. It is preparatory to the study of clinical general-medicine courses, especially in the 4th and at the beginning of the 5th years. General-medicine courses are taught in a reduced extent with special attention paid to oral and dental problems. 
 
From the 5th semester on, intensive, specialised instruction in dentistry courses is started, which continues until the 10th semester. The studies of dentistry courses are intensified both in the theoretical and practical aspects, ending up in a 15-week pre-graduation practical training in the 10th semester which emphasises a comprehensive treatment of the patient. 
 
The dentistry courses occupy more than 50 % of the whole curricular time. In the course of the studies students also complete 4 blocks of vacation practical training during which they gradually get acquainted with the operation of health-care stomatological facilities, with practical procedures, special materials, and technologies. The studies are completed with advanced (rigorous) state examinations in three dentistry subjects: Therapeutic, Surgical, and Orthopaedic Stomatology. The language of tuition is English.
 
6-year General Medicine Faculty of Medicine in English
 
Masaryk University Medical Faculty provides 6-year program in General Medicine in english.  The curriculum for General Medicine leads to a diploma degree in "Medicinae Universae Doctor" (MUDr.,), equivalent to M.D., i.e. Doctor of Medicine. 
 
Masaryk University Medical Faculty degrees are fully recognised in the EU, the USA and in most other countries. For information on conditions for full registration and recognition of the diploma degree in Medicine, successful graduates should apply to the local authorities and professional bodies within the country they want to practice medicine. Our Faculty of Medicine is listed in the IMED - FAIMER International Medical Education Directory and in the AVICENNA Directory for medicine.
 
Every applicant must have successfully completed secondary education (i.e. secondary school, high school, college, etc.) resulting in a school-leaving examination, rewarded with a school-leaving certificate (e.g. A-level certificates). Applicants’ secondary school results and a school-leaving certificate are required for further recognition of their secondary education in the Czech Republic in order to be enrolled. The good command of English in a must.
 
The entrance examinations will take place in Brno and abroad via Medical Faculty representatives. The students are accepted on the basis of a written entrance examination consisting of three separate tests in the following subjects: Chemistry, Biology, Physics or Mathematics.
 
Each test contains 40 multiple choice questions with five possible answers out of which only one answer is correct. Each test takes 60 minutes. No periodic tables or other reference materials are necessary, apart from a simple calculator. The acceptance pass mark in General Medicine is 60%. The acceptance pass mark in Dentistry is 65%.

  • International qualifications which are equivalent to International Baccalaureate or A level qualification (for Bachelors program),
  • English language qualifications: student may be asked to demonstrate your English proficiency in a telephone interview.
  • Curriculum Vitae - a summary of education, relevant job experience, skills etc.
  • Statement of purpose: document outlining the applicant's intellectual history and presenting his/her motivation in applying to the certain program.
  • Recommendation letter you may also be required to provide the reference from your university teacher.
