Requirements to practice medicine in Germany

To practice medicine in Germany, Doctors from abroad must have the Medical License to Practice Medicine (approbation) and speaks german language.


Approbation (the Medical License to Practice Medicine in Germany)

The Approbation (the Medical License to Practice Medicine) is a requirement for admission to medical continuing training in Germany. According to EU/EEA legislation, undergraduate medical diploma (at least 6 year program) from accredited universities in EU/EEA and Switzerland are valid in Germany.

Medical diploma (Doctor of Medicine -MD, DM, MChD, MBBS, etc.) awarded outside of EU/EEA and Switzerland universities may practice medicine (or medical specialsation) in Germany on condition they prove that they have completed their medical training as a doctor or are entitled to practice medicine in their respective home country.

To practice medicine in Germany, medical Doctors from abroad may be required to pass an Academic Performance Exam in same states.


Good Germany level

To practice medicine in Germany, foreigner’s doctors must have a good level of German language. Even if the minimum level require is B2, it is better to have hag her than B2 level. In some case, the German competence can be acquired in Germany.
