Pomeranian Medical University (Pomorski Uniwersytet Medyczny) was established in 1948 in Szczecin in Poland and organizes today general medicine and dentistry in English, along other several medical programs in Polish.  
Owing to the significant number of professors settling in Szczecin, the Pomeranian Medical University became the sole school of higher learning in this town bestowed with full academic powers to hold doctoral and habilitated doctor studies and grant doctoral degrees.
The passion and efforts of the pioneers resulted in an increasing number of students and academic teachers, a widening scope and rising level of specialized health services, and in scientific research of growing importance.

Pomeranian Medical University English offers 6 year general medicine and 5 year dentistry program. German language is required for clinical studies. 
 
6-year MD Program in English
 
Pomeranian Medical University in Szczecin offers 6-year MD Program in English at the Faculty of Medicine for international candidates. Predominant students are from European countries (preferably EU citizens who speak fluent German) and especially German citizens.
The curriculum in Medicine consists of six years of studies. First three years (preclinical) of studies are oriented on such sciences as: Morphological sciences; scientific basis of medicine and Preclinical sciences. First, second and third year of studies are semester-based. The language of instruction during year 1, 2 and 3 is English.
 
Fourth and fifth year (clinical) of studies will be conducted in a co-called block system. Those two years of studies are focused on the following four domains: Behavioral sciences with elements of professionalism; Clinical sciences; Clinical sciences with patients’ treatment; Legal and organizational basis of medicine.
 
The sixth year of studies is dedicated to practical training only (30 weeks) in the following fields of medicine:
  • Internal medicine
  • Pediatrics
  • Surgery
  • Gynecology and Obstetrics
  • Psychiatry
  • Emergency medicine
  • Family medicine
  • 6 weeks of the specialty/discipline chosen by the student.
Fourth, fifth and sixth years of studies are designed to offer the student the possibility to train and study in Germany (fluency in German is required). Last year of studies will finish with Physicians Final Examination.
 
5-years DMD program
 
The curriculum of the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry consists of five years of medical and dental courses. Upon successful completion of the course, student is entitled to receive a DMD diploma (Lekarz-Dentysta). The first two years deliver with knowledge from basic, preclinical disciplines with and introduction to clinical sciences. The following three years focus on dental disciplines and clinical studies. The duration of the program is 10 semesters, with total number of 5 000 hours of lectures and practical classes.
Along with ECTS system, new system of education, so called outcome based, has been implemented at Pomeranian Medical University.
Learning outcomes are statements of what a student is expected to know, understand and/or be able to demonstrate after completion of a process of learning.
 
The outcomes are based on the following essential elements of a competent and reflective practitioner:
  • what does the student know (demonstrating evidence of knowledge, assessing comprehension, assessing application, assessing analysis and synthesis)
  • what the student is able to do (practical skills )
  • the student as a professional (competences -  a dynamic combination of attributes, abilities and attitudes)
These three primary elements give rise to seven domains, which student will have to master during 4 academic years:
  1.  sciences in dentistry
  2. legal amorphological sciences
  3. scientific basis of medicine
  4. preclinical sciences
  5. behavioral sciences with elements of professionalism
  6. clinical sciences in general medicine
  7. clinicalnd organizational basis of medicine
 
Fifth academic year (ninth and tenth semester) is dedicated to 30 weeks of practical training in the following fields of dentistry:
  • Conservative Dentistry
  • Prosthetics
  • Dental Surgery
  • Paedodontics
  • Periodontal and Mucous Membrane Diseases
  • Maxillo-facial Surgery
  • Orthodontics
  • Gerodentistry
